Muriel Buttinger

Muriel Gardiner Buttinger was an American psychoanalyst and psychiatrist. Buttinger became involved in anti-fascist activities. Using the code name Mary she offered her apartment as a safe house for dissidents. For those who needed to flee, she smuggled false passports into Austria, usually taped in the inside of her corset, and provided the necessary sums of money for the journey. The Muriel-Gardiner-Buttinger-Platz in Vienna is named in her honor.
